Joanne Smith Warner returned to our Heavenly Parents Tuesday, March 12, 1996, due to cancer.
Joanne was born August 11, 1918 in Brigham City, Utah, the first of 11 children to Avera Marie Wright and Samuel Joseph Smith. Joanne married Albert Heber Warner on October 15, 1940 in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple February 4, 1943.Joanne was raised and educated in Ogden. A graduate from Weber College, a member of Otyokwa. She furthered her education, graduating from Utah State University majoring in English and Education. While attending USU she was an officer in Kappa Delta sorority, and was later chosen as Harvest Queen. Mom spent her college summers working in Yellowstone Park. For 32 years she loved teaching elementary school children in Ogden and Weber county schools.
She served as an officer in the Ogden Area Parents of Twins Club and the Teachers Association of Utah. She enjoyed having her friends and club members around her.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Primary, the Stake Primary presidency, the MIA, and other church positions. As current a member of the South Ogden 8th Ward, she was dedicated to visiting teaching and the French extraction program.
Mother's first love was her eternal companion and family. She was a loving, caring mother of eight. Her greatest desire was to emulate the gospel in the home, family, temple and in prayer. Mom loved all of God's creations, sharing them with her family while at her cabin, in the mountains and during family vacations.
Surviving are her three daughters and five sons, Lucy Ann (Michael) Morrelli, South Ogden; Charles Albert Warner, Victor, Mont.; Jan (Russ) Lawrence, Ogden; Alan Smith (Pat) Warner, Salt Lake City; Theron Cole "Corky" (Carol) Warner, South Ogden; Albert Heber, Jr. "Skip" (Kathy) Warner, Ogden; Valeen (Don) Peterson, West Haven; Vernon Scott (Arlene) Warner, Roy; 37 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters and four brothers, Charlene Anderson, Marilyn Davidson, Elaine Hymas, Dr. Jerrold Smith, Dr. Shauna Eccles, Michael Smith, Joseph Smith, and Timothy Smith. Preceded in death by a brother, Richard Smith, and a sister, Clara Smith; and two grandchildren, Samuel Morrelli and Trisha Warner.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 1996 at 1 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Richard Adams officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Interment, North Ogden Ben Lomand Cemetery.
