Government action
Alpine City Council
In its meeting Tuesday night, the Alpine City Council:
- Discussed annexing the southern part of a site for a new 25,000-square-foot stake center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the upper end of Alpine Boulevard. The council is also considering trading adjacent city-owned land to enlarge the northern part of the site for a road past the stake center connecting Alpine Boulevard to a planned road leading to a wilderness park. Action on the annexation is expected at the March 26 City Council meeting.
- Approved adding a $5 per foot bond to building permits for curb, gutter and sidewalk damage in approved subdivisions. The measure was taken to prevent builders from damaging off-site improvements during construction.
- Approved a resolution adopting cut and fill standards for new city streets.
- Approved application for a state grant for constructing curbs, gutters and sidewalks along the west side of U-74 from north of Shadow Mountain Junction to Alpine city limits toward Highland. The project will cost more than $400,000, including about $20,000 in cash and about $60,000 in labor and materials that Alpine will contribute.
- Took no action on a public hearing reviewing two zone change requests. The first concerned changing residential zoning to business commercial use in the middle of town at about 150 S. Main St. The second revolved around Conrad and Diane Teichert's request to rezone their property at 757 S. Alpine Highway from one acre minimum lot sizes to half acre.
