Beginning next month and for the first time in city history, Sandy will have a full-time staff member in charge of public relations.
Rick Davis, now a management analyst for Arizona, is one of two BYU graduates hired recently as assistants to chief administrative officer Byron Jorgenson.Davis, 32, will be assigned a variety of management duties, including community relations and public information. He will spend part of his time helping Jorgenson and Mayor Tom Dolan communicate with residents and the media.
"From what I understand there are a number of community groups in Sandy that are active participants in the process," Davis said in a telephone interview from Arizona.
Davis, who will start work April 8, was director of public relations for Beneficial Life Insurance Co. in Salt Lake City before moving to Arizona.
"For two years he's been doing operational and performance audits on state agencies, helping them be more productive and efficient," Jorgenson said of Davis. "And he's going to help us in those same areas."
The other new hire is Malcolm Nash, who served for the past five years as a management analyst for Orem. Nash began his Sandy employment on Monday. He replaces Shane Pace, who left after five years to serve as contract administrator for Taylorsville-Bennion. Jorgenson said Nash will focus on management analysis, conducting special audits and studies for different city departments.
Both Davis and Nash have masters degrees in public administration from BYU. Each will make an annual salary of $40,500.
