Paul H. Peterson has been named director of Brigham Young University's Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies.

Peterson, an associate professor of church history and doctrine, will replace S. Kent Brown, announced BYU President Merrill J. Bateman. The three-year appointment will become effective July 1.Peterson is a veteran of two appointments to the BYU Jerusalem Center as religion director. He also served as chairman of the Jerusalem grants and scholarships committee and as a member of the Jerusalem academic coordinating committee.
