The Utah Highway Patrol Association along with the Wives of Utah Troopers would like to thank the citizens of Utah for their support during the past several months as we have petitioned the governor and state Legislature for better salaries. It was a boost to our morale to have so many citizens approach us with their own vote of confidence telling us how much they hoped we would get a well-deserved raise.
For those of you who haven't heard, the Utah Highway Patrol did receive a substantial increase in pay. It won't make us the highest-paid police agency in Utah, but it is a great start to fixing a serious problem. Many legislators supported our cause and the UHPA is grateful to several legislators who took a personal interest in helping to solve some of the problems faced by the Utah Highway Patrol. We want to recognize the following legislators for their support: Reps. Demar "Bud" Bowman (Iron and Beaver counties), Peter Knudson (Box Elder County), Fred Hunsaker (Cache County), Gerry Adair (Weber County), Blake Chard (Davis County), Susan Koehn (Davis County), R. Mont Evans (Salt Lake County), Steve Barth (Salt Lake County), Brian Allen (Salt Lake County), Christine Fox (Utah County), John Valentine (Utah County), Sens. Robert Steiner (Salt Lake County), David Buhler (Salt Lake County), Scott Howell (Salt Lake County), David Steele (Davis County).
We also want to thank MADD, Attorney General Jan Graham, KSL Freeway Watch, Utah Alcohol Policy Coalition, Coalition for Utah Traffic Safety, Council on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, UHP Honorary Colonels, Utah Public Employees Association and the Utah Mining Association and anyone else who supported our cause at this year's Legislature.
