TRACK & FIELD: After successful indoor campaigns, BYU's women's and men's track teams open the outdoor season today and Saturday at the Willie Williams Invitational, a non-team scoring meet, in Tucson, Arizona.

Coaches for both teams are happy to see the end of the indoor season and are looking forward to getting outdoors.

"We have cabin fever to say the least," commented women's coach Craig Poole.

"We're looking forward to getting outside and seeing some sunshine," echoed men's mentor Willard Hirschi.

MEN'S TENNIS: BYU's men's tennis team defeated Drake University 4-3 Thursday in the first round of the US West Cellular Tennis Classic in Boise.

The Cougars improved their record to 8-5 with the win over Drake.

BYU captured the win in each doubles match. The number one combination of Boris Bosnjakovic and Manuel Calvo defeated Drake's Rene Novotny and Robert Novotny 9-8. BYU's David White and Kengo Usui downed Rodney LeServe and Stephen Doig of Drake 9-7.

BASEBALL: Jeremy Giambi singled in a pair of runs and Kirk Irvine allowed only one earned run in 81/3 innings Thursday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 6-2 nonconference baseball victory over BYU.

Ryan Roberts led off the game for the Cougars with his fifth home run of the year but the Titans scored three times in the bottom of the first.

Fullerton improved to 19-2 with the win; BYU dropped to 12-8.
