The "Black Widows," the 421st Fighter Squadron of the base's 388th Fighter Wing, was to deploy in support of Operation Southern Watch. The jets were to take off Friday with the remaining troops leaving Monday.Operation Southern Watch began on Aug. 27, 1992, when a "no-fly zone" was established south of the 32nd parallel in the Iraq area.
