A suspect in the armed robbery of a Fruit Heights gas station was arrested Wednesday night after a high-speed chase down I-15 into the Rose Park area of Salt Lake.
Davis County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Kelly Sparks said deputies searching the Fruit Heights area flushed out a vehicle driving without lights about 45 minutes after the 10:30 p.m. robbery. The suspect fled south on U.S. 89 and onto I-15, Sparks said, at one point running over a belt of tire spikes, which flattened two tires on his car. He kept driving into Rose Park, then fled on foot, trying to return to his apartment, Sparks said.
Deputies, assisted by several other police agencies, arrested him at that point, Sparks said. He was booked into the Davis County Jail on charges of DUI, evading police, possession of a controlled substance, and on several outstanding warrants, Sparks said.
He is a suspect in the robbery of the Chevron station at Cherry Hills, Sparks said, but hasn't been charged. Deputies were searching his impounded car Thursday morning, looking for the handgun used in the robbery and the money taken.
Sparks said no one was injured in either the robbery or the subsequent chase.
