Philip (Ole Fil) Boyer, a wonderful husband, father, friend, neighbor, uncle, grandfather, brother and son; Phil was born into this world the son of Phil and Lucille Squires Boyer on June 3, 1925. He celebrated both his 70th birthday and 50th wedding anniversary during this past year. He not only celebrated the events, but life as well.
While we all loved him, his Father in Heaven must have needed him more and called him home after a battle with cancer on March 14, 1996.He will be missed most by his wife, Marian Edith Child, whom he married September 4, 1945. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple early the next year. They spent many great hours together in their home on the East Bench and traveling with their dogs and/or family in their motorhome and enjoyed taking his family boating. His children, Ron Boyer of Danville, Calif. and Sheri Doty of Salt Lake City, and their spouses, Margo and Richard, will miss their mentor, handyman and dear friend. He could build, fix or seem to do just about anything. The eight grandchildren will miss their second father and confidant. His brother, Robert Boyer, sister, Louise Downey, and niece, Carol Schafer, will need to find another cribbage partner.
He loved his wife, family, dogs, woodworking, photography, hunting, fishing, and playing games of many kinds and being of service to his Father-in-Heaven, and how he enjoyed life. He served his family, his friends and neighbors as a Bishop, youth leader, teacher and all around handyman/friend. His last position in his and Marian's ward was with Marian acting as editor and publisher of the Ward newsletter wherein he and Marian were able to include news about the nonmember residents of the ward as well as its members.
He graduated from the University of Utah as an electrical engineer. He went to work for Honeywell and later became a partner in the sales and engineering firm of Midgley-Huber. There he was not only a great salesman but a good friend to those with whom he worked. He retired from the company at age 66.
