Daniel F. Lawrence died March 14, 1996 at his home in Bountiful.

He was born March 19, 1917 in Shelley, Idaho to Pearl Oler and George Howard Lawrence. He was one of 11 children, eight sons and three daughters. Dan married Connie Hanson in the Logan Temple in 1939. He attended school in Stanton, Aberdeen, American Falls and Shelley, Idaho. He graduated as a civil engineer from Utah State University in 1941.He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many positions including Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop, and High Councilor. He provided enthusiastic and dedicated leadership in the development of Utah's water resources; first as an engineer with the Utah Water and Power Board and then as Director of the Division of Water Resources, where he served for 17 years on numerous councils, commissions and committees. Through his tireless service, foresight, wise counsel and hard work he gained the respect and admiration of governors, legislators, professional associates and his employees. His ability to transform dreams and plans into functional projects dramatically increased Utah's water fortune and improved the quality of life we all enjoy.

In 1985 he "retired" after 28 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the State of Utah and a 44-year career in the field of water resources development and management.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; three sons, Dan R. (Shirley), Richard J. (Leslie), and Wayne F. (Charlene); and one daughter, Susan (Charles) Peterson; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 1996 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful Val Verda Fourth Ward Church, 2633 South 50 West, Bountiful. Friends may call at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. or at the church Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
