ROBERTS GOING TO TOURNEY: Kenneth Roberts of BYU has been selected to play in the 44th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Basketball Tournament on April 3-6 at Portsmouth, Va.

Roberts, a 6-8 senior center from Riverton, scored 1,652 career points at BYU as the seventh-leading scorer in school history. He also finished third in both BYU career free-throws attempted and made (511-641), was eighth in both BYU career field goals made (561) and percentage (.546).

MEN'S GYMNASTICS: The 14th-ranked BYU men's gymnastics team meets Air Force today.

BYU will again be paced by senior All-American Darren Elg, who is currently atop the national rankings in all-around (57.375), floor exercise (9.8417) and high bar (9.8333).

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The ninth-ranked BYU women's tennis team will end its home season with two dual matches against Top 25 teams. The Cougs host No. 19 South Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 25th-ranked Clemson on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

BYU (13-5) has won eight of its 10 dual matches at home this season and is currently on a five-match winning streak.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: BYU freshman Courtney Pugmire will compete in the World Junior Cross Country Championships on

March 23 at Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Pugmire, 5-6, earned one of the six spots on the U.S.

National Junior team last month with a fifth-place finish at the

USA Women's World Cross Country Trials in Cincinnati, Ohio.

MEN'S TENNIS: BYU suffered a 7-0 loss to Boise State Friday at the US West Cellular Tennis Classic in Boise. The Cougars are now 8-6 overall.

TRACK: BYU's men's and women's track teams competed in first-day events at the Willie Williams Track and Field Classic Friday in Phoenix.

In the women's shot put, Amy Christiansen marked a 53-03.5 for first place and a provisional NCAA qualifying mark.

Amy Cox took first place in the discus with her 153-06 mark.

BYU's Sam St. Clair took first place in the 3000-meter steeple chase.

The meet continues today.

Utah

SOFTBALL: Utah slugger Sandy Rhea was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple to lead the Utes to a 4-1 victory to gain a split with Cal-State Sacramento in the nightcap of their doubleheader Friday.

Pitcher Susie Bugliarello allowed just two hits and struck out 14 to lead the Hornets to a 1-0 victory in the opener. Utah is now 12-8, 1-1 in WAC play, while CSUS is 10-10, 1-1.

Weber State

WOMEN'S GOLF: The Weber State women's golf team will participate in the Idaho Invitational, hosted by the University of Idaho, to be held Sunday through Tuesday at the Lewiston Country Club in Lewiston, Idaho.

TENNIS: After taking a week off for finals, the Weber State men's and women's tennis teams travel to Southern California for dual match play March 16-20.

The women (6-4) open play at Cal-Poly Pomona today and then face Cornell in Newport Beach and Cal-State Northridge on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The men (2-10) will face Cal-Poly Pomona today, battle Cal-Poly SLO on Sunday and then play at Loyola Marymount on Tuesday. WSU finishes up match play Wednesday against Dartmouth in Los Angeles.

OUTDOOR TRACK: The Weber State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams open up the 1996 season today at Long Beach, Calif.

Both teams are scheduled to participate in the Long Beach Invitational against teams from Long Beach State, UC-Irvine, Cal-State Northridge, Cal-State Fullerton and Colgate will join the Wildcats in the scoring meet.

Southern Utah

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Southern Utah women's tennis team was defeated 6-0 by Cal State Fullerton Friday in the first round of the Titan Tennis Classic. The T-Birds also lost to American West Conference foe Cal State Northridge, 2-5, Thursday afternoon.
