Amtrak's new high-speed train, the "American Flyer," is shown Friday in a computer-generated photo. Vice President Al Gore unveiled models of the 150-mph trains, which will carry passengers between Boston and Washington by 2000, at a ceremony at Washington's Union Station. The new trains and track will cut Boston-to-New York travel time from four hours and 30 minutes to under three hours. It will cut at least 15 minutes off the three-hour New York-Washington run. Gore also confirmed that Canada's Bombardier Corp. won the contract to build the 14 locomotives.
