An LDS missionary was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he and a companion walked along a dark section of Connecticut 63 on Friday night, police said.
Brian Michael Miller, of Rexburg, Idaho, suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead about 9 p.m. EST Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.Miller had served 18 months of a 24-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Church spokesman Gerry Pond said Miller was walking along a bicycle path well off the road when he was hit.
Witnesses said Miller and another missionary had been in Naugatuck for the past few days and had been seen talking with people on the green and in other parts of town.
The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle - a brown or rust-colored Chevrolet Camaro - fled the scene after the accident. The car was recovered about 20 minutes later. The driver called police and turned himself in, said Lt. James Fortin.
There has been an arrest, police said, though they did not release the name of the suspect on Saturday.
