Jeff Sluman, two strokes off the lead after the second round of the Bay Hill Invitational, disqualified himself Saturday for taking an incorrect drop.

Sluman technically was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard Friday, when he shot a 3-under-par 69 for a 139 total. That included an improbable par on the par-3 17th. He put his tee shot into the water, then holed a wedge from the drop area 50 yards away.

Local rules at Bay Hill Club provide for a drop area - but only if it is not closer to the hole than the point where his ball first crossed the water.

Sluman, the 1988 PGA champion, was going over his round late Friday night when he became concerned he might have taken a bad drop. He went out to the 17th hole Saturday and, about 30 minutes before he was to tee off, he decided to disqualify himself.

Had his ball crossed a small strip of land to the side of the pond, the drop area would have been appropriate.
