West Jordan

For its March 12 meeting, the City Council toured Ogden's Golden Spike Arena as part of a study about whether to rebuild, redesign or get rid of West Jordan's aging rodeo arena.

Jordan

The Utah Association of School Psychologists honored three Jordan staff members in late February.

Judith Skeen, Copper Hills High School; and Lynn Durham, Bella Vista and Cottonwood Heights elementaries, each received a distinguished service award. Scott Orme, a University of Utah intern working at several elementary schools in the district, was named School Psychologist Student of the Year.

The West Salt Lake Community Council will hold it's monthly meeting to hear an update on the Glendale youth center, legislative action and zoning enforcement. A neighborhood garden signup also will be held.

The Jordan Meadows Community Council will hold a monthly meeting to discuss a proposed cellular telephone tower by Diamond Lil's and rezoning of property on North Temple.

Westpointe Community Council will hold a monthly meeting to hold final nominations and voting of officers.

West Valley City

A total of $30,000 in mini-grants for 1996 are now available for residents who want to improve their neighborhoods. Through a competitive process, qualifying neighborhood-based groups are awarded funds for community improvement projects. Grants range from $50 to $5,000.

When: Deadline for applications to the community and economic development department (City Hall, Room 250) is March 25 at noon.

What Else: Qualifying neighborhoods must be in an "eligible area of the city." Project improvements can be on public sidewalks and street right-of-ways, parks or school grounds. "Income eligible" property owners may make improvements on private property.
