Joe R. Giron, 58 of Salt Lake City, died March 5, 1996.
He was born September 18, 1937 in Petaca, New Mexico to Jose Angel and Dulcinella Ortiz Giron. He married Anna Marie Esquibel on August 3, 1957 in Salt Lake City. He received paratrooper training at Ft. Benning, Georgia and served in the U.S. Army's Elite 5th Special Forces Group, Airbourne, at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He later served directly under the chief warrant officer at Ft. Bragg. He attended Utah Technical College studying diesel mechanics. He worked at the Tooele Army Depot. He was a construction contractor, and later owned several businesses for many years. He helped countless people in need.He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie; children, Susy, Christine, Joseph, Angelo, Mary Ann, and Cecilia; nine grandchildren; brothers, Horacio (Rose) Giron, and Robert Giron; sisters, Maria (Leo) Barella, Arcelia Archuleta, Jenny Herrera, Mary (Gilbert) Archuleta, Ruth (Randy) Truesdell, and Diane (Spike) Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 No. A vigil service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. also at the church, where friends may call from 6-7 p.m. Committal: Larkin Sunset Lawn. Funeral Directors: Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary.
