An Orem man was arrested Wednesday for investigation of attempted murder after trying to ram two police cars and two other drivers during a high-speed chase.
Orem police were dispatched to a traffic accident at 400 N. 1200 West about 3 a.m. All they found was broken glass and other debris, said Lt. Mike Larsen. As an officer sat in his patrol car at the scene, a man driving westbound on 400 North tried to hit him head-on at 60 mph, Larsen said. The officer swerved out of the way. The 24-year-old driver then tried to smash another patrol car and fled.
Police chased him until he crashed into a pavilion at a city park near the Orem Recreation Center. The driver fled on foot. Police caught him on the baseball field, Larsen said.
The man suffered minor cuts in the car crash but refused medical treatment, Larsen said.
He is being held in the Orem City Jail for investigation of attempted murder, evading police and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Larsen said police would like the other two drivers who were run off the road Wednesday morning to contact them.
