INDY 500 PRACTICE

Arie Luyendyk, who owns the record for the fastest Indianapolis 500, turned the fastest unofficial lap in the history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday.

The Netherlands-born driver, shaking down his backup Reynard-Ford, took advantage of a warm, breezy afternoon to turn three straight laps over 237 mph - the fastest of which was 237.774. That is quicker than the 237.555 by Scott Brayton during testing last month in a Lola-Menard.
