Anna Wilcox Billings died May 8, 1996 in Bountiful, just three months after her 100th Birthday.
She was born February 7, 1896 at Garland, Utah, the third child of Oliver LeRoy and Lucy Evaline Clark Wilcox.Served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Samoan Islands for three and a half years. She was 16 at the time of her mission and the youngest lady missionary ever called to serve a mission without parents or guardian.
Upon her return home, she enrolled in and graduated from Relief Society Nursing program taught by Dr. Ellis R. Shipp. Anna did private duty nursing and nursed during the flu epidemic of 1918 in Delta, Utah. She also was the school nurse in Millard County.
Anna married Gerald D. Billings November 18, 1920 in the Manti Temple. He left one month later to serve a two years mission to Australia. Anna worked at nursing in Salt Lake City while Gerald was in Australia.
Settled in Delta, Utah with their one-year-old daughter after Gerald returned home. Lived in Delta all of their married life. Gerald died February 25, 1982.
Anna was active in the LDS Church, serving in all of the auxiliaries. She especially enjoyed doing genealogy as well as teaching others to do it. Was attendance secretary in the Young Women's program for many years. She loved to attend her Samoan Missionary reunions.
Survived by 10 children, Lucile (Grant) Western of Smtihfied; Cecil (Kahtryn), El Paso, Texas; Howard (Lois), West Valley City; George, Salt Lake City; Blanche Mathews, Logan; Arlene, Washington, D.C.; Wanda (Thurman) Barker, West Jordan; Terah (Joye), Holladay; Fenton (Jackie), Springville; Bryce (Marylyn), Bountiful; nine brothers and sisters, Cleon (Julia) Wilcox, West Jordan; LeRoy (Letha) Wilcox, Provo; Glen (Afton) Wilcox, Mexico City, Mexico; August Hunt, Pine Valley, Utah; Roxie Anderson, Riverton; Maybelle (Harry) Shelley, Alameda, Calif.; Viola Roundy, San Fernando Valley, Calif.; Kathleen Endter, Long Beach, Calif.; 48 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; Preceded in death by daughter, Geraldine; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon, at the Delta 4th Ward on 2nd South 3rd West. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, and one and one half hours prior at the church in Delta.
Interment, Delta Cemetery.
