For the first time, the Freedom Festival at Provo's Grand Parade will be televised live on a commercial television station July 4.
Freedom Festival officials said Friday they reached an agreement with Salt Lake City's KSL-TV (Ch. 5) to broadcast two hours of parade coverage on the morning of Independence Day.KSL has also been named the official Freedom Festival television station.
TV coverage will begin at 9 a.m. and is expected to finish by 11 a.m. KSL will also cover the Stadium of Fire that evening and other events during the monthlong celebration.
The Grand Parade has been shown live on KBYU (Channel 11), but for the past three years there has been no television coverage.
Festival officials estimate at least 150,000 people line the parade route each year.
This year, parade entries will begin near Provo High School at approximately 1100 North and University Avenue.
