Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, says his new appointment to a subcommittee overseeing transportation should help him fight for expansion of I-15 and light rail.
Bennett has been named to two subcommittees of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which he joined last month. One is the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, and the other is the Drinking Water, Fisheries and Wildlife Subcommittee."With these assignments I will be able to specifically address I-15 expansion issues and other Utah highway and public building needs," he said.
"I also look forward to representing Utah's interests in federal environmental policies concerning endangered species and safe drinking water."
Bennett's appointment to the transportation subcommittee gives him double power affecting I-15.
That subcommittee helps determine what road projects should be authorized for funding, and Bennett also sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee - which actually divides available funds among eligible projects.
