Salt Lake County will celebrate the formal opening of the new Salt Palace with three days of parties, parades and fireworks.
The events open to the public begin Thursday with an 11 a.m. processional parade from the City & County Building to the Salt Palace.The ribbon-cutting ceremony starts at noon with an "Exhibition of `Utah's Finest' " opening 30 minutes later.
That evening, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the public is invited to a mixer sponsored jointly by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau.
At 9 p.m., the tower will be lighted with lasers, a light sculpture and fireworks.
Friday at noon, a daylong block party begins with more than 40 food booths and entertainment by Joe Muscu-li-no, Disco Drippers and Salsa Brava.
At 8:45 p.m., the laser and light show begins again in conjunction with the concert finale, featuring "Rockapella."'
Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the public can buy tickets to see magician Brett Daniels and comic jugglers. Tickets are available through ArtTix by calling 355-2787.
At 9 p.m. fireworks and lasers will light the new palace.
