MARKER TO HONOR 2 IN MORMON BATTALION

A marker memorializing Charles Jameson and Jerome Zabriskie, two members of the Mormon Battalion in the 1840s, will be dedicated at the Minersville cemetery Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. The markers will be placed by the U.S. Mormon Battalion Inc., a group that finds the graves of original Mormon Battalion members and places special markers on the sites.

Jameson and Zabriskie enlisted in the Mormon Battalion in July 1846 and marched in the 2,000-mile march from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to San Diego, Calif., arriving in January 1847. Both men returned to Utah, arriving in October of that year and lived at various locations across the state, leaving a number of descendants.Another ceremony will be held in Spanish Fork on May 27 to place a marker for William Holt. Family and friends are invited to attend the dedication. For more information regarding the ceremonies, contact Allen Jameson at 295-5694 or Raymond Baker at 586-8200.
