Blame it on the weather, because Yellowstone is having a tough time getting all entrances open this spring.

The already late opening date for the east gate fell back nearly another week on Wednesday as snowdrifts and avalanche danger slowed snowplows that usually have the park's east corridor cleared by now. With their path still blocked by snow, travelers heading to Yellowstone from the east through Cody face a detour of more than 200 miles to reach a park entrance that is open.

The Cody Country Chamber of Commerce office has been fielding complaints from about 100 to 150 travelers a day, all dismayed the east gate remains closed, said Chamber Director Paul Hoffman.
