BYU-HAWAII STUDENT IS MISS MESQUITE

Carolyn Crowther, a Brigham Young University-Hawaii student who is Miss Mesquite, will leave Mesquite in early June to prepare for the June 15 Miss Nevada Competition.

The daughter of Mesquite educators Glenn and Claire Crowther, Carolyn completed her senior year at BYU Hawaii majoring in secondary education. Her minor is in music.She holds honors and awards from the National Honors Society, has been named a Distinguished Scholar Student, was on the honor roll throughout high school and at BYU-Hawaii plus winning numerous other awards and scholarships. "I want two degrees, at least," Crowther said, "a master's in education and one in broadcasting." Her goal is to teach high school for 10 to 15 years, then go into broadcasting in the news/communications area.

A 10-year classical voice student, she will sing for the talent competition. She spent five years at BYU summer music camps, also participating in their drama and dance classes. She worked with Showtime Company, Showcase Hawaii, and been a member of three university choirs as well as being involved in numerous opera and theater workshops.
