Utah State University's College of Education is one of 54 colleges across the nation that recently met national accreditation standards emphasizing teacher performance.
Dean Izar Martinez said USU was accredited under the new, performance-oriented standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the agency responsible for professional accreditation of teacher education."We worked very, very hard for three years to prepare for this accreditation visit," said Martinez. "It verifies again that we do have quality programs and that we have some great expertise in the college. At the same time, we get some very good students coming into this program."
Martinez said during an exit interview NCATE personnel cited USU's elementary education field-based program as exemplary. They also cited the administrative supervisory program, particularly the internship portion.
