WEST UPSETS TIMPVIEW IN INTERREGION SHOOTOUT

A battle of goalkeepers in the first round of the 4A interregions led to a 2-1 shootout upset of top-ranked Timpview by West Friday. The Panthers, although just a sixth seed from Region 6/7, created the overtime magic.

Senior goalie Rafael Bustamante prevailed over Timpview's Quinn Fullmer in the shootout by clutching the T-Birds sixth and final kick. Both keepers saved three penalty kicks to that point.Ethan Ross hit Timpview's first goal before West rebounded thanks to a tying shot from Scott Langeland. The Panthers will now battle with region foe Cyprus in the quarterfinals, Tuesday at East High.

In other interregion games:

Cyprus 2, Mountain Crest 0: Josh Nye posted the shutout of the Mustangs for Cyprus. Brady Johnson assisted Brandon Larsen after scoring his own goal in the first half.

Bear River 1, Springville 0: Breaking a 0-0 lock at halftime, the Bears earned their first playoff win as Justin Zollinger scored from a Nate Davis assist. Robert Sylvester got the shutout; Woods Cross will be next for the Bears.

Woods Cross 3, Ben Lomond 0: With a 0-0 halftime score, the defending 4A champs buried Ben Lomond with goals from JD Lyon, Mark Morris and BJ Brewer. Kam Nordfors made clutch saves in the second half to keep the shutout.

Tooele 1, Pleasant Grove 0: A tripping call inside the goal box with 10 minutes left allowed Spencer Parrott to score the winning penalty kick. The Vikings couldn't score on Buffs' goalie Brady Gray in their loss.

Ogden 6, Judge 0: Judge fell hard to Region 5's top seed as Jared Loveland, Chris Langeveld and Shaun Wilcoxen scored before halftime. Langeveld added another goal in the second along with Charlie Gladwell and Damon Orton goals.

East 3, Provo 1: Kris Lien scored twice and David Orme pounded in another to earn a quarterfinal berth. The Leopards will host the tourney at home by taking on Olympus.

Olympus 2, Sky View 1: Spencer Chipping hit first for Oly in the second minute. Then with 11 minutes left, Chris Bauers punched in a throw-in pass for the Titan win.
