DEATH: BLANCHE DEWITT WOOD

Blanche DeWitt Wood, age 72, died at home on May 18, 1996 from complications of a brain tumor that was diagnosed in June of 1995.

Blanche was born in Magnolia, Alabama, December 6, 1923 to Joseph Lambert and Arcola Martin DeWitt. She grew up in Alabama and served an LDS mission to the southern states during World War II. She then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend school and work. While in Salt Lake City, she met her husband, Gordon S. Wood, of Alberta, Canada. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1950. They enjoyed 47 years together and raised five children. After Gordon retired, they served an LDS mission to the Liberty Stake. They traveled throughout the U.S. and many foreign countries.Blanche will be remembered by her friends and relatives for her "southern hospitality" and selfless service.

She is survived by her mother, Arcola DeWitt, age 96; her husband, Gordon S. Wood; her children, Gordon S. Wood, MD; Rory D. Wood, MD; Roxane Otsuka; Stacey Miles; Jeffrey H. Wood; and 11 1/2 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 21, 1996 at 11 a.m. at the Parleys 3rd Ward, 2615 East Stringham Ave. Family will meet friends, Tuesday at the ward chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be at the Salt Lake Memorial Mausoleum, 1001 11th Ave. Funeral Directors, Salt Lake Memorial Mausoleum and Mortuary.
