Some 34 people representing 26 Utah companies have been selected as finalists the Utah Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a program founded and produced by the professional services firm of Ernst and Young.

Selecting the winner will be Jerry Atkin, chief executive officer of SkyWest Airlines; James Beardall, CEO of Anderson Lumber Co.; Joseph Cannon, CEO, Geneva Steel; Jake Garn, vice chairman of Huntsman Chemical Corp.; Paul Sybrowski, founder and former CEO of Ameritech Library Services Inc.; Shelley Thomas, vice president of public affairs, Smith's Food and Drug Centers Inc.; Thomas Young Jr., CEO of Young Electric Sign Co.
The winner will be announced during a banquet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, in Little America. Utah winners will compete for regional honors and regional recipients will compete for the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award that will be announced during the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute International Conference Nov. 14-17 in Palm Springs, Calif.
The award is sponsored nationally by the institute, the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Inc. at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, USA Today and the NASDAQ Stock Market and locally by Merrill Lynch, the law firm of Parsons, Behle & Latimer, Utah Business Magazine and R.C. Willey Home Furnishings.
