CAPTION ONLY: FIRST-GRADE READERS ARE REALLY ON THE BALL

Jazz center Greg Ostertag congratulates Joshua Huffman and Tricia Polito, the winners of a first-grade reading contest, who received signed basketballs for their accomplishments. Julie Henschen, a first-grade teacher at Horizon Elementary School in Murray, launched the contest in January to help her students develop a love for books. By the time the contest ended May 17, Joshua had read 423 books, totaling 14,815 pages, and Tricia 400 books totaling 14,026 pages. "The prizes were just incentives," Henschen said, adding that her main goal was to teach lifetime reading skills.
