DEATH: JOAN D. EKLUND

Joan Doheny Eklund, beloved mother and sister, died at home, May 24, 1996 in Salt Lake City.

Born June 25, 1921 in Lytle, Montana to Harry Walter and Ethel Mae Doheny. Married John Raymond Eklund in Salt Lake City. Member, Catholic Church, St. Ann's Parish. Joan taught special education for a number of years, embraced the hearts of her dear students and treasured the friendship of her fellow teachers.Joan devoted countless hours of volunteer work in Salt Lake City government and loved helping the public. She was very active in the 49ers Club and an avid bowler twice a week with the Catholic Women's League and the 49ers. Joan was also a big Jazz fan and got an assist in their win last Friday. Her friends meant the world to her and she had more energy than someone half her age.

Survived by son, John Steven Eklund (Tamara) and three beautiful grandchildren (Annika, Alexis and Carleigh); sisters, Marilyn, Noreen, Anne and Carol; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Peggy. Preceded in death by her husband, numerous brothers and sisters, and dear friend, Ann Terry. Her family also extends heartfelt thanks to Martha and Marjan of Community Nursing Services for their wonderful care and compassion.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 29, 10 a.m., St. Ann's Church, 450 East 2100 South. Vigil and rosary service Tuesday, May 28, 7 p.m., Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 So., where friends and relatives may call one hour before. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Community Nursing Services, 2970 So. Main, SLC, Utah 84115.
