A male grizzly cub died from injuries received after apparently being hit by a vehicle last weekend, Yellowstone National Park officials announced.

The 19 1/2-pound cub was found early Sunday by visitors, lying along the road on Swan Lake Flats, south of Mammoth Hot Springs.Officials said they believed the bear was struck either late Saturday evening or early Sunday.

The young bear, born this year, suffered multiple fractures and other injuries so park officials euthanized it, and the carcass was sent to the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department laboratory in Bozeman for a necropsy.
