TURN DOWN VOLUME ON STUDY OF TV NEWS

The Pew Center for the People and the Press, one of those research centers that tries to explain why Americans are, well, so predictably American, noted recently that network television news is slowly losing its popularity.

Since 1994, surely a year I assume to be one of those earmarked as the golden era of television news, Americans have been turning off network news by nearly a third, the Pew Center finds.And therefore, the center concludes, "Television news is in trouble with the American public."

Gee, and all the time I thought the decline had begun with the retirement of Chet Huntley.
