Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Herb Caen, known for his frequent use of ellipses that he calls "three-dot" journalism, has a San Francisco prom-enade named after him. It even has its own dots.

The Port Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to name a three-mile walkway along the bay in honor of the columnist who has recorded the city's moods and events for the San Francisco Chronicle for 57 years. The promenade along the Embarcadero from China Basin to Fisherman's Wharf will be called "Herb Caen Way . . ."

The naming of the walkway is the fourth major event for Caen this year.

Since April, Caen turned 80, married girlfriend Ann Moller and was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize for his "continuing contribution as a voice and a conscience of his city."
