THREATS PROMPT BOARD TO BAR VISIT BY THOMAS

Bowing to threats of a protest, the Prince George's County, Md., school board has withdrawn an invitation to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to speak at one of its schools.

Thomas had been asked to speak June 10 at an awards ceremony at the Thomas G. Pullen Creative and Performing Arts School in the predominantly black county adjoining Washington, D.C."There's no place for Clarence Thomas anywhere in my district," board member Kenneth E. Johnson told the Washington Post. "He has done everything he can to undermine the things that are important to the people in my district."
