Half a million Whirlpool and Kenmore dishwashers are being recalled because wiring in the door latches may overheat and catch fire.
Owners of the affected models should not use the dishwashers until they can be serviced, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.The dishwashers were sold nationwide between June 1991 and October 1992 for $350 to $475. About half were sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Affected Whirlpool brands have model numbers beginning with DU8, DP8, DU9 and GDP. Kenmore brands have model numbers that start with 665.
Both brands have serial numbers ranging from FA2400000 to FA5299999, or from FB0100000 through FB1899999.
