ROBERTS GOES DISTANCE AS BUZZ BLANK RAINIERS

Bret Roberts hurled a complete-game shutout to lead the Salt Lake Buzz to a 6-0 Pacific Coast League victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Thursday night.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander pitched the first complete game by a Salt Lake pitcher this season as he limited Tacoma to eight hits - seven of them singles.Salt Lake got all the runs it would need when Brent Brede hit a solo home run off Tacoma starter Edwin Hurtado in the second inning. Brian Raabe made it 2-0 when he led off the fourth inning with his ninth homer of the year.

The Buzz put together four hits, a walk, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly for four more runs in the ninth.

Roberts improved his record to 5-3.

Hurtado, making his first appearance since coming down from the Seattle Mariners, pitched 8 1-3 innings and took the loss. He is 0-1.
