Two days after he was convicted of fraud and announced he would resign, Gov. Jim Guy Tucker found out he needs a new liver.
Tucker, 52, who suffers chronic liver disease, will be placed on a transplant list within a year and could wait months after that for a donor, spokeswoman Max Parker said Thursday.Tucker learned of the need for a transplant after a trip to the Mayo Clinic on Thursday for a checkup. The governor had his last regular checkup in December, and postponed an exam in March because of the Whitewater trial and other matters, Parker said.
All the signs indicate his liver disease is progressing, Parker said.
