A mentally disabled sex offender who fled his father's custody was rearrested outside the Crossroads Mall Wednesday morning.
Elvis Dean Brown, 23, was taken into custody by Salt Lake police officers about 11:30 a.m., said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Jim Faraone. Brown was mistakenly released into his father's custody last week.He subsequently left his father's West Valley house to visit a friend but never returned. Brown was charged with molesting a 12-year-old boy in 1992, but the charges were dismissed when he was found incompetent to stand trial.
Faraone said the man was taken to the county line, where he was returned to the custody of an employee of the hospital.
