A 45-year-old man has been arrested when he hit a 10-year-old girl with his car after he allegedly attempted to kidnap her.

The girl was walking home from Jackson Elementary School, 750 W. 200 North, when a man driving a gray Cadillac approached her and asked her to get in his car. The girl refused and crossed the street. The man followed her to the other side and she crossed again. She crossed the street several times avoiding the man before he hit her at 16 N. 600 West. The driver fled and the girl received only minor injuries.

Twenty minutes later, as a witness was describing the car to police, the suspect drove by the scene of the crime, this time with a known prostitute in his car.

The man was booked for investigation of aggravated assault and attempted kid-nap-ping, according to Salt Lake City police spokesman Sgt. Jim Faraone.
