Richard H. Madsen, chairman, president and chief executive officer of ZCMI, was named Retailer of the Year at the fourth annual Michael Landon Awards.
A spokesman said the awards honor excellence in the fashion industry while raising thousands of dollars for leukemia research and to help ensure state-of-the-art treatment for leukemia patients regardless of their ability to pay.Madsen accepted his award from Leonard Lauder, founder and chairman of Estee Lauder Cosmetics.
Other 1996 Michael Landon awards went to model Naomi Campbell and women's wear designer Carolina Herrera. Bulgari won the award as top jewelry designer, Hugo Boss was named best men's fashions designer, and Joan and Helpern were presented the top shoe designer award. Designer Oscar de la Renta received a special "Lifetime Achievement" award.
Steve Shor, president of the National Children's Leukemia Foundation, said past honorees include Helen Gurley Brown, Susan Lucci, Christy Turlington, Cindy Craw-ford and Oleg Cassini.
"We're proud of the variety of our programs . . . and of the great strides we have taken in the years since our inception," said Shor. "And the Michael Award winners also stand as symbols of our success."
The awards are named for the late actor Michael Landon, who died in 1991 of cancer.
