Two tenants playing basketball at a Capitol Hill apartment complex were shot at several times Friday after refusing to fight with a group of men who approached them.
The residents, 22 and 15, were not injured in the gunfire that occurred near 600 North and 300 West just before 4 p.m., a police report says.An 18-year-old suspect in the group fired the shots after the two started to walk away. The victims were approximately 20 feet from the suspect when he fired, the report states. Witnesses said a number of cars near the basketball court were in the line of fire.
Several .38-caliber slugs were recovered and police are investigating the incident as a gang-related attempted murder. Two suspects were later arrested Friday night, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Jim Faraone.
