I do not know how many people will have read the little article in last Thursday's newspaper by the Associated Press concerning an athlete in Tennessee who had been voted Athlete of the Year at his high school in Page, Tenn. Along with this award he had also won the award of Christian Athlete of the Year from an organization in which he had served as vice president during the preceding year.
However, when the state director of the Christian Fellowship of Christian Athletes discovered that the young man, Aaron Walker, was a Mormon, they refused to give him the award at the year-end banquet where all the athletes were to be honored. Walker is a member of his school's basketball and tennis teams. My husband and I have written a letter of protest to the state director. We have assured him that Latter-day Saints are Christians, and we are concerned that his organization has chosen to withhold an earned award from a young man only because he is a Mormon.
