A week of special activities has been scheduled at the Sevier Valley Hospital May 12-18 in connection with National Hospital Week.
The event will conclude Saturday, May 18, with a health fair from 8 a.m. to noon, according to hospital administrator Gary Beck. The fair will feature free blood pressure checks, blood glucose, glaucoma screening and immunizations. Cholesterol screenings and mammograms will be given at reduced rates.
Representatives from the hospital and community education programs will be on hand at the fair with information about such programs as fitness, dental and foot care, baby watch, prenatal education, senior service, living wills, Medicare, healthy lifestyles and diet.
Beck said a special feature of the occasion will be hospital employees and their families conducting community service projects. They will participate in cleanup of city parks, planting trees and painting as well as installing a wheelchair ramp in the town of Joseph.
National Hospital Week focuses public attention on the numerous contributions hospitals make to their communities and to recognize medical staffs and volunteers, Beck said.
