The City Council has directed its staff to negotiate with the Davis School District on a possible joint project to build new tennis courts.
The district is hoping to construct a six-court tennis complex near Davis High School, west of the DATC building and south of the football stadium. Private funds have been collected toward some of the courts, the district might fund several more courts and the city at least two more.Davis High lost some tennis courts a few years ago when its new auditorium was built, and Kaysville City lost several tennis courts this past winter to the new Joanie's Restaurant and other area projects near "Bishop's Park." The city's plan has always been to replace those tennis courts somewhere.
"I think that would be great," Councilman Stephen Whitesides said of a proposed, joint tennis court project.
The council's main concern doesn't seem to be the money as much as the availability of the courts.
City manager John Thacker said the traditional arrangement has been that the schools would have priority to use the courts during the day and residents getting most opportunities in the evening.
