Fremont Indian State Park, along with the World Atlatl Association, will hold its fourth annual atlatl competition Saturday, June 15.
The competition with the atlatl (an ancient spearthrowing device) is open to all ages. Registration is at 9:00 a.m., and the competition begins at 10:00 a.m.Contestants compete in four categories: children's 10 and under, youths 11 to 15, men's and women's divisions. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place in each category, and the overall grand champion will receive an award from the World Atlatl Association.
An afternoon workshop will teach participants to use and craft primitive atlatls. The workshop will be followed by an awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the campground. The workshop is free but there is a $5.50 charge for dinner.
