Three men died Wednesday when a van packed with 18 undocumented workers from Mexico overturned a few miles north of the Arizona border.
Killed were:Martin Garcia Zavaleta, 56.
Iartemio Valdez Garcia, 23.
The name of the third victim has not been released.
The other occupants were injured, four critically. All were illegal aliens apparently traveling to Chicago to find work.
The van was northbound on I-191 about 7 a.m. when the driver apparently fell asleep and over-cor-rected when he awoke, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Doug Hall.
The van rolled several times - ejecting all the occupants, said Hall. A passing motorist spotted the accident and called 911 on a cellular phone. Several ambulances and helicopter were enlisted, transporting victims to hospitals throughout the region.
Six patients, including two or three in critical condition, were flown to the hospital at Grand Junction, Colo.
Others are being treated at clinics and small hospitals in the Four Corners region, including Garcia's wife, who learned she was pregnant while she was being treated.
The large number of victims sapped resources of local medical centers, which reportedly had to scramble to find bed space and treatment equipment.
Roadways throughout San Juan County have become popular pipelines for illegal aliens traveling throughout the Southwest, said Hall.
