Our beloved wife, sister and friend, Deirdre Jan Hungerford, age 38, passed away June 12, 1996 in Sandy, Utah.

Deirdre was born April 13, 1958, in Endicott, New York, the daughter of William and Edgaretta Wood Hungerford. She married Robert I. Birnie on June 21, 1983 in Grandview, Iowa. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, with a degree in Environmental Biology. Dee also attended graduate school at the University of North Dakota and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was employed at AT&T.Dee had a great love of animals and was deeply devoted to all her dogs, various strays, and animals of all kinds. Her deep spirituality was constantly evident by her love and respect for animals. Dee worked in archeology with her husband for 10 years before moving to Salt Lake where she joined AT&T. She derived great joy and satisfaction with her co-workers and friends. She was a generous and beloved daughter, bringing great joy and happiness in particular to her mother. She was the best and most loyal of friends, and will forever be in our hearts. She was the love of her husband's life and made him extremely happy. He will miss her deeply.

Survivors include her husband, Robert I. Birnie, of Sandy; mother, Edgaretta Wood Hungerford, Berkshire, New York; brother, Brian Hungerford, Berkshire, New York; sister, Barbara (husband Robert) Menter, Syracuse, New York; uncle, Jay Adams, Burbank, Calif.; and her two dogs she deeply loved, Bridger and Tchama. She was preceded in death by her father, William on February 23, 1996 and her sister Eileen, June 24, 1962.

Memorial services will be held Saturday June 15, 1996, 10 a.m. at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 South 2300 East.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Dee's name to the Humane Society of Utah, 4242 S. 300 W., SLC, UT., 84107.
