Rick Collier, current director of the Southwest Crafts Center in San Antonio, has been selected as the new director of the Salt Lake Art Center.
For more than 20 years Collier has been involved in directing or influencing a variety of visual arts organizations in the Northwest and Texas. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and a proven ability to raise funds and manage budgets."He's fantastic and we're darn lucky to get him," says Allen Dodworth, interim director of the Salt Lake Art Center. "He knows art, he knows artists, he's a real artist advocate and he's an artist himself."
Collier earned his B.F.A. in sculpture from Boise State University and his M.F.A. in sculpture from Washington State University.
While Collier's starting date, Aug. 1, is still tentative - He is busy cleaning up last minute projects and fullfilling previous obligations - it is certain he will soon be assisting the Salt Lake Art Center in its continuing support of visual artists and in its presentation of quality programs and exhibits for the community.
