A British Conservative Party magazine says Princess Diana is damaging the royal family and should bow out of the institution.
The magazine of the right-wing Conservative Way Forward group criticized Diana's "voracious appetite for the privilege and attention" that followed her 1981 marriage to Prince Charles and said she had forfeited much of the sympathy she had built up with the British public."One does not need to be judgmental about who is to blame for the divorce, but one is entitled to form a view about who is proving more damaging to the monarchy in the process.
"The Princess of Wales (Diana) has steadily forfeited the sympathy she so skillfully built up over the last few years. . . . The future of the monarchy is the Prince of Wales (Charles) and its future thereafter is Prince William.
"She may remain an excellent mother, but for the rest of us she is not much of a princess," it said.
The magazine is edited by Conservative MP Sir George Gardiner and represents a small group of Conservatives on the right of the party.
